Air-gauged Ultrarifled Quality

The true Douglas Difference lies in our air-gauge testing method that guarantees our customers receive an ultrarifled product. For over seventy-five years we’ve provided independent customers, firearm manufacturers, and U.S. Armed Forces with superior quality products that improve accuracy and deliver consistent results. An ultrarifled barrel will have less than .0002” of variance from the designated bore dimensions. This ensures that each bullet leaving the barrel has less wobble turning flight and returns tighter groupings. Our barrels require limited break-in periods and deliver more consistent results for more rounds than competing products.

No Shortcuts

We still follow the same manufacturing process as founder G.R. Douglas laid out with each barrel made by detailed craftsmen. This process has been further enhanced with new modern CNC machines, lathes, and supplemental manufacturing equipment to bridge the gap between age-old craftsmanship and modernized production.

Carbide Push-button Rifling

Rather than use subtractive machining techniques, Douglas Barrel depends on in-house fabricated precision carbide buttons to create incredibly accurate bore dimensions and rifling within the gun barrel. This manufacturing method creates the most uniform and precise rifling available in the industry.

Barrel Stability

Douglas Barrels does not apply any supplementary straightening methods to our barrels. We prefer to maintain our drilling and reaming tolerances as tight as possible to achieve the straightest bores possible. With over seventy years of experience, we’ve yet to find a better method to ensure a stable barrel during firing.

Premium Quality Inspection

All barrels are inspected by ultraviolet Magnaflux methods to ensure no defects are present that may impact barrel quality or performance. As not all defects are readily visible to the naked eye, Magnaflux testing indicates any problem areas in the barrel that may prevent our machinists from achieving air-gauged quality during the manufacturing process.

Air Gauge Testing

Air gauge testing is an innovative way of measuring the bore caliber to measurements to the thousandth of an inch. The air gauge measures the displaced air within the barrel against the desired caliber size to ensure uniform diameters or possible inconsistencies along the complete length. All Douglas Barrels must air gauge within .0002” of the desired diameter to attain the ultrarifled designation.
